I found this recipe on the side of a Hershey's cocoa can. I haven't had Hershey's for quite a few years, but I keep refilling the can with Italian cocoa. I can't believe it took me so long to find this recipe, but we sure do love it. I don't think I can ever go back to those little instant hot chocolate packets.
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. Cocoa
dash salt
1/3 c. hot water
4 c. milk
3/4 t. vanilla
Mix sugar, cocoa, and salt in saucepan; stir in water. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture boils. Boil and stir for 2 minutes. Stir in milk and heat. Do NOT boil at this point. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Enjoy!
A note about cocoa: I have made this with "Cacao Amaro" which is probably the closest to Hershey's...in that case, I make this exactly as above. In a couple of cases, I only had "Cacao Zuccherato"...in that case, I only used 1/4 c. of sugar.
