Okay, I haven't found anything homemade that comes close to Jack Stack's in KC...or even KC Masterpiece for that matter. (Yes, I am a KC BBQ snob; I admit it!) But, in a pinch, this has become my BBQ sauce. It works great over a roast in the crock pot for shredded bbq beef sandwiches, over chicken, or as well as for the grill.
1/2 c. tomato juice (I use Passata.)
1/2 c. catsup
1 T. brown sugar
1 t. vinegar
2 t. Worcestershire
2 cloves garlic, minced
salt
dash of liquid smoke and Tobasco (optional)
Mix all and simmer about 15 minutes. Makes about 1 cup. (Obviously, I frequently double this recipe!)
