Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is straight from Giada's Family Dinners, one of my favorite cookbooks. It's become my standard chocolate-chip cookie recipe. I even sent a batch to Quinn's class for his birthday, and they were a hit there, too. I often leave out the hazelnuts if I don't have them on hand. And instead of chocolate chips, I finely chop a dark chocolate bar (fondente) and use that.

1/2 c. oats
2 1/4 c. flour
1 t. baking powder
1 t. baking soda
1/2 t. salt
1 c. butter, at room temp
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 t. vanilla
1 c. hazelnuts, chopped
1 bag semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 325 F. Line to baking sheets with carta forno. Finely chop the oats in a food processor. Transfer oats to medium bowl. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Using electric mixer, beat butter and sugars in a large bowl until fluffy. Beat in the eggs and vanilla. Add flour mixture and stir just until blended. Stir in hazelnuts and chocolate chips.

Drop dough on sheets by rounded tablespoons, spacing 1 inch apart. (Do not flatten the dough.) Bake until cookies are golden...about 15 minutes; they will flatten slightly. Cool and serve.
