Out, Darn Gray Lines!

Okay, so this isn't a recipe. But, since so many of us in our international neck of the woods have been able to take advantage of the wonderful Vietri pottery (that would've cost us each an arm and a leg in the States!), I think this is a tip that deserves sharing.

What about those gray scratches and lines that appear on the inside and even the outside of pottery? Ever wondered what those were or how they got there? And more importantly, are they permanent? Look at this cereal bowl. If you saw the way my kids inhale Jordan's Chocolate Country Crisp like barbarians nearly every morning, you would understand why those marks are there.

But, there is hope! Tricia got me going on this tip sometime last year in reference to the Mikasa dishes I've had for over 15 years. But, it works beautifully on Vietri as well. Barkeeper's Friend. It comes in a can like Comet, and you can find it at Walmart. Just a small amount on a damp sponge and a little bit of scrubbing gets away those ugly gray lines!

See this bowl. It started out looking just like the other one. Seriously! Actually Lauren and Andy are the witnesses as Lauren is actually the one who cleaned this one for me. Then we all stood around my kitchen and "ooohhhed and ahhhed" over the result. Amazing. It looks like new!

Here's a side by side comparison.

And here's the newest thing that should be added to import lists around the country! (Now if I can only talk Andy and Lauren into cleaning the rest of my dishes....)

There is no end to what Bar Keeper's Friend can do! It's also awesome for removing those grey marks from your sink or on pots and pans that have water or salt stains. We import it too!
